I wrote Font O’Matic 1.0.5 as a quick and easy way to keep track of what my fonts look like. You can leave it running in the background and activate it when you want to take a peek at your fonts and get a good idea of what effect they produce on real text.
Font O’Matic is very straightforward. It displays a window with a pop-up menu containing a list of all the fonts currently installed in your system. When you select a font from the pop up menu, sample text in that font will be drawn in the window. You can also scroll through all available fonts by pressing the space bar. After registering your copy: To change the size of the font used to draw the text sample, pull down the Size menu and select an available size. To change the style of the font used to draw the text sample, pull down the Style menu and select a new style.
You can put an alias of it in your Apple Menu items folder, or in the Start Up items folder. I just leave it running in the background most of the time, since it’s unobtrusive. It requires system 7 or later (up to 7.5.1).
Font O’Matic doesn’t use much memory, 184K is the lowest setting I’ve allowed for, but if your number of fonts is fairly low (about 60) you can reduce the memory partition yourself using the get info box.
I hope you find FOM useful.
Font O’Matic is shareware. If you like it and continue to use it after two weeks, please send me $10. Please do not send a check drawn on a non French bank. When I register shareware I just send a traveller’s check. Maybe you’ll find that convenient too.
Enjoy FOM!
